Dubai International Airport Receives the Title of “Airport of the Year 2022”

Dubai International (DXB) has won the Aviation Business Awards 2022’s “Airport of the Year” honor. The award was given to Paul Griffiths, the CEO of Dubai Airports, at a recent ceremony in Dubai.

DXB’s “unrivaled success” over the previous 12 months led to its selection as the category winner. In the first half of 2022, the airport welcomed 28 million passengers, almost three times as many as it did during the same period in the previous year, while also maintaining and improving the quality of its services and making sure that customers had a seamless travel experience at all of its touch points.

At the 2022 Aviation Business Middle East Awards, dnata was voted Ground Support Services Provider of the Year for the 12th time and the third time in a row. In accepting the honor on behalf of dnata, Jaffar Dawood, Senior Vice President for UAE Airport Operations, said, “The fact that our team has won this award 12 times shows how hard they work to consistently provide world-class services to our airline partners’ passengers. To be the greatest at whatever we do, we will keep making investments in our people, facilities, and machinery.”

To support its airline customers’ growing flight operations at more than 120 airports worldwide, dnata has continued to scale up operations throughout the past year. This involved expanding its current facility in Dallas, USA, as well as building brand-new, cutting-edge freight centers in Erbil, Iraq, and London, UK. Additionally, dnata announced a significant investment of US$200 million in a fully automated cargo center, dnata Cargo City Amsterdam, in the Netherlands. Through the strategic acquisition, dnata also expanded its cargo operations into Cologne, Germany. To further increase efficiency throughout its operations, dnata made investments in cutting-edge technologies and digitalization. OneCargo, a digital cargo management system, was launched, a next-generation e-commerce platform was created, and autonomous drones were put into use in its warehouses, among other significant accomplishments.

Additionally, dnata has kept up efforts to optimize resources and lessen its environmental impact throughout its global network. At its current locations in the UK and Singapore, it has most recently installed renewable energy technology, including solar panels, heat recovery units, and electric vehicle charging stations. The building and management of dnata’s new cargo centers in Iraq and the Netherlands will also include carbon reduction activities.

Qatar becomes first Islamic country with the ‘best airport in the world’

In 37 nations on six continents, dnata provides ground handling, freight, transport, catering, and retail services. The customer-focused teams at dnata handled more than 347,000 aircraft turns, carried over 1.35 million tons of cargo, lifted 50.5 million meals, and generated a total transaction value (TTV) of $1.3 billion for travel services in the first six months of the fiscal year 2022–23.
