Qatar becomes first Islamic country with the ‘best airport in the world’

DOHA – Hamad International Airport, Qatar’s sole international airport, has been named the world’s best airport as it topped the list by dethroning Singapore’s Changi Airport in world airport awards by Skytrax.

The development came after an international aviation rating agency named Qatar Airways the world’s best carrier. Every year, Skytracx, an airline consulting firm, surveys travelers across the globe about more than 500 airports. Earlier, the title was taken by Singapore’s Changi Airport for the eight consecutive years.

Previously, Hamad airport was listed as number three in the world but the airport impressed many of the travelers during the Covid pandemic with the best possible safety standards.

Skytrax official Edward Plaisted, in a statement, said “As travel hubs worldwide have been impacted by the Covid pandemic, Hamad International Airport was undeterred by the global travel disruptions and continued with its expansion plans while introducing additional airport health and safety standards.”

Meanwhile, a statement issued by the chief operating officer at Hamad International Airport, Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, cited “This is not only a truly remarkable achievement for HIA and the State of Qatar but an endorsement from our travelers for our commitment to service excellence”.

The aviation experts ranked world airports on the basis of a number of factors like convenience to get transport from the airport, the procedure to pass the immigration queue, internet availability and speed, food standards among others.

The airport is crowned the best airport as it featured a state-of-the-art wellness center with a swimming pool, you can also get hydrotherapy. It also includes a gym, squash courts, and a spa that offers anti-jet-lag massages as well as facials.

Tired passengers, who just want to take a quick nap, can also rent a private, air-conditioned sleep pod or cabin which nobody wants to miss especially in long stopovers.

Hamad Airport offers a wide range of food including Middle Eastern, international, and Western cuisines. The Airport feels like a high-end shopping mall, as people find a number of international fashion brands.

Reports in international media claimed that the annual capacity of the Airport will likely increase by 53 million passengers while a 110,000-square-foot tropical garden along with a 900 ft tall waterfall is also being built at the airport.
