Shaheen Afridi Has Been Nominated For ICC Men’s Player of the Month

Shaheen Shah Afridi, a fast bowler, was nominated on Tuesday for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award as a result of his outstanding performance at the T20 World Cup, which was played in Australia from October 16 to November 13.

The left-arm spinner, who returned to the mega-event after overcoming a knee injury, claimed 11 wickets at an average of 14.09 and a 6.15 economy rate. Against Bangladesh in a vital group game, Afridi established an essential rhythm. In this game, the bowler allowed the Green Shirts to grab four wickets and go to the semifinals.

In the T20 World Cup semifinal matchup against New Zealand, Shaheen grabbed two wickets for 24 runs in four overs. Injuring herself while attempting to catch a Shadab Khan delivery during the previous game, Shaheen eventually departed the field in the second-to-last over. In the championship match, England overcame Pakistan to win their second T20 World Cup title. Along with Adil Rashid and Jos Buttler, both Englishmen, Shaheen is competing for player of the month. Powered by Buttler, England overcame India in the semifinals. The wicket-keeper batsman’s 80 off 49 helped England defeat India by 10 wickets. Adil, on the other hand, took four wickets in the mega. Most significantly, it was his performance in the knockout stage that earned him a nomination for the aforementioned distinction.

However, after winning the first match of the Test series against England, Pakistan’s Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq rose to new heights, earning career-high rankings from the International Cricket Council (ICC). With the most recent ICC update, Imam rose 13 ranks to position 38 on the list of Test batsmen while Abdullah rose five spots to position 15 on the list. Each player scored a century in the first innings of the most recent first Test match between Pakistan and England at Rawalpindi. The Pakistani team’s captain, Babar Azam, has moved up one position to claim third place overall.

Australia’s Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne, who replaced Joe Root at the top, are currently in first and second place, respectively. According to a press statement from the ICC, “Root earned the top spot thanks to a stellar batting performance over the most recent English summer. A significant change in leadership has occurred as a result of Labuschagne’s outstanding performance against the West Indies and a mixed performance in the most recent first Test in Pakistan.” It should be noted that Labuschagne hit 204 and 104* against the West Indies in the first Test in Perth. Pat Cummins of Australia is in first place for Test bowling, but Ravindra Jadeja of India continues to lead the all-rounder rankings.
