Female Students Forced to Remove Brassieres to sit in Medical entry test in India

A father of a female student sitting in the medical entry tests in Kerala has submitted a complaint to the police saying that her daughter along with other female students was forced to remove their bras to attempt the exam.

The police have opened an investigation.

According to reports, the girl was served with a warning that she would not be allowed into the exam hall if she refused to remove her bra. Students were questioned whether their future or their undergarments were more important when they refused to take them off, he claimed in the complaint. He stated that numerous other girls were in the room, and many were crying.

The girl’s father reported the incident to the Kollam police superintendent, saying that “many students” taking the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) at the Mar Thomas Institute of Information and Technology were made to remove their undergarments.

In India, the NEET exam serves as the prerequisite for admission to medical institutes.

The state’s higher education minister described the act as ‘very terrible’, which caused a great deal of criticism. Dr. R. Bindu criticized the National Testing Agency (NTA), which is in charge of administering the exam, saying that there is a severe error on the part of the agency and its staff. It is deeply regrettable that the girls were treated in this way without any regard for their fundamental human rights. The situation will be brought up by the state with NTA and the federal authorities.

By certain sections of the Indian Penal Code, the police have also opened an investigation into a case involving ‘outraging the modesty of women.’ Police told The Indian Express that they have not named anyone as the alleged offender. They need to uncover the person who reportedly instructed the girl to take off her undergarments, as well as the organization in charge of frisking the pupils at the exam site.

A representative for the exam center made it clear that the institute was not participating and that the frisking was carried out by NTA employees. According to a representative of the Mar Thomas Institute of Information and Technology, the NTA allocated two agencies for frisking and documenting biometric attendance. They have no idea what the regulations are for this. All of this is verified by the agency’s employees.

In the meantime, the NTA said it had not been made aware of any complaints. Candidates must adhere to the NTA’s dress code, which states that if they are wearing clothing with full sleeves, big buttons or badges, or brooches, they will be rigorously screened for small communication devices like Bluetooth or cameras, stated to The Print.
