Watch: Mike Tyson repeatedly punches fellow passenger on plane

Authorities in San Francisco were looking into an incident in which former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson was caught on camera hitting a fellow first-class passenger on an aircraft at San Francisco International Airport on Thursday.

Tyson can be seen repeatedly striking the unidentified man in the head with his back against the back of his seat, drawing blood. The video was first released by TMZ, which said it was shot on a Jet Blue flight going for Florida.

In an email to The Associated Press, spokespersons for Tyson said, “Unfortunately, Mr. Tyson had an issue on a flight with an aggressive passenger who began harassing him and hurled a water bottle at him while he was in his seat.”

The man can be seen standing over Tyson’s seat, waving his arms and talking animatedly before the physical altercation, as the former boxer sits peacefully.

Officials said San Francisco police responded to a “physical altercation” on a plane at the airport’s domestic terminal around 10 p.m. on Wednesday.

“Officers came and detained two individuals suspected of being involved in the incident.” One person was treated for non-life threatening injuries at the scene. According to police, “that subject supplied little facts of the occurrence and refused to participate further with the police investigation,” according to a statement released on Thursday.

According to the statement, both were released awaiting further investigation.

Sarah Burchfield, another aircraft passenger, said she witnessed the man Tyson punched earlier at an airport bar becoming loud and obnoxious.

Burchfield told SFGate, “When I boarded the flight, I thought, Oh no, the drunk guy is on our flight.”

Burchfield said she passed Tyson’s seat in the first class section of the plane when she boarded.

She explained, “The angry person was seated close behind him, and I watched them interacting.” She said she heard the fight in first class a short time afterward.

The video was shared with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, which has jurisdiction over the airport, according to San Francisco police.
