At her wake in the city of Babahoyo, a 76-year-old woman who had been declared dead at an Ecuadorian hospital was found to be still alive and knocking on her coffin.
She beat on the coffin with her left hand, and when I raised it, I could feel her heart pounding. The woman’s son, Gilberto Barbera, said in a video posted on social media, “We called 911 to bring her here to the hospital.
In the video, bystanders can be seen waiting for and encouraging Montoya, 76, as she is transported back to the hospital and emergency services arrived. The Ministry of Public Health reports that a government probe is currently under progress.
According to the report, the woman was admitted to the hospital on Friday with probable symptoms of a stroke and cardiac arrest. When the woman failed to respond to standard resuscitation procedures, a doctor on call pronounced her dead. The remainder of the footage shows her hospital identification tags before cutting to her son, who is seen asking for an ambulance to come. The woman’s full name is reportedly Bella Yolanda Montoya Castro, which is the same as the initials “B.Y.M.C” used in a statement issued on Sunday by Ecuador’s Health Ministry.
In Babahoyo’s Martn Icaza Hospital, where she had previously been pronounced dead, it was stated that Montoya was in intensive care. Her state right now is unknown. Later, when the man who was filming the scene inquired what the woman’s name was, someone in the room said, “Bella Yolanda.”
