Two Infants Said to be swapped at Benazir Bhutto Hospital Rawalpindi

Due to the apparent carelessness of hospital employees, two infants were switched to Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH).

As soon as the occurrence was brought to light, a disagreement erupted between the relatives of the kids. Two babies were born at the Benazir Bhutto Hospital labor room two days ago, according to police sources who spoke to The Express Tribune. The parents were informed that their babies may have been switched when they received them. The staff asserted that the parents were lying and that their respective parents had received the newborns.

The Waris Khan Police were quickly contacted by the hospital administration to become involved and fully investigate the situation. A thorough assessment of the hospital’s CCTV revealed no definitive proof. According to reports, the police decided to get samples from both parents and newborns to do genetic testing because there was no other way to verify the identities of the infants. The kids have also been placed in government care and are being held in the hospital nursery pending the outcome of the DNA test. The infants will be given to their respective parents based on the reports once they are received.

The parents’ identities have been kept secret since the issue is delicate. The hospital administration has also created a five-person committee to look into the situation, and if it is discovered that the staff was negligent, severe punishment would be taken against those responsible. Musa Aftab, a three-month-old baby, was abducted from the Benazir Bhutto Hospital’s OPD last month after his mother Saima Noreen gave him to her 10-year-old daughter Ayesha Fatima while she was getting checked up. The stolen child’s father, Malik Aftab, claimed that when his wife returned from her checkup and discovered her son missing, their daughter claimed that a woman had taken the child with her and vanished.

The infant was securely rescued by the police after they conducted a raid on a home in the Morgah neighborhood with the aid of intelligence services. The woman and her partner were also taken into custody. The child’s parents received custody of the child. Earlier, BBH Medical Superintendent Dr. Sohail Ahmed Chaudhry claimed to have assembled a fact-finding team, which found no evidence of hospital management incompetence in the kidnapping of the child.

The family which brought their newborn daughter to the Benazir Bhutto Hospital Rawalpindi for treatment in September 2020 was accidentally given the body of another child by the hospital staff. Details indicate that a Havelian resident named Ijaz and his wife Sarah brought the baby girl to Benazir Hospital for care.

After determining that the kid had hepatitis, the pediatrician in the pediatric department admitted her to the emergency room. After some time, the medical staff released the patients from the hospital and gave over the body of a dead girl. Ijaz buried the infant along with his wife. When the mother saw the baby’s diaper after the funeral, she immediately recognized it as not being her daughter. Later, the family arrived at the hospital and organized a protest against the staff.
