Twitter to Discontinue Its Blue Tick Legacy on April 20

The legacy blue checkmarks on Twitter accounts verified under the previous administration will be erased, according to billionaire Twitter owner Elon Musk, with a deadline of April 20 set for implementation.

Previously only available to verified accounts of prominent figures like journalists, famous people, and politicians, the blue checkmark is now available to anybody willing to pay. According to Musk, the decision is intended to increase the business’s subscription income.

Twitter said at the end of last month that it will stop using its legacy checkmarks by April 1 and offered links for anyone who wanted to keep using them.

Twitter switched to paid verification as a result of Musk citing the necessity for income and the need to combat bots. Musk joked in response to Stephen King’s objection to spending money on a blue checkmark: “We need to pay the bills somehow!” The website would charge $8 a month to authenticate users’ credentials, Musk had revealed in November of last year. People’s power is essential. The billionaire businessman had tweeted, “Blue for $8/month,” using the platform’s well-known blue checkmark as a point of reference. He said that the new tactic would alter the “current lords & peasants system” and generate new revenue for the website.

After announcing a $8 blue check membership service, Twitter suspended it ten days later due to the proliferation of fraudulent accounts.
