Qatar gets the Biggest Attendance in the History of the FIFA World Cup

Despite being geographically small, Qatar defied all criticism by having the largest supporter attendance at the World Cup group stages in FIFA history in 2022.

The match between Argentina and Mexico at Lusail Stadium on November 26 attracted a record-breaking 88,966 spectators, the largest attendance in FIFA’s history since 1994.

According to Arsène Wenger, FIFA’s Head of Global Football Development, the results of the group stage demonstrate the extent to which more nations have developed the capabilities to compete at the greatest level. FIFA released the statistics on Saturday as the tournament advanced to the round of 16, where a more challenging competition began as teams competed for victory. There were 48 matches played throughout the 13-day group stages.

Argentina defeated Mexico 2-0 in the game that set a new FIFA record, with all-time great Lionel Messi saving his team from defeat. England vs. USA game was the most viewed men’s football game on US television outside of the playing field. The challenging match on November 25 concluded in an unexpected 0-0 draw. The first World Cup to be held in the Arab region was a success thanks in part to Qatar, which had 2.45 million spectators and an average occupancy rate of 96%.

The number surpasses that of Russia, a far larger nation, which welcomed 2.17 million spectators to its 2018 tournament. Teams from every continent in the world made it to the round of 16 for the first time at the event in Qatar, which also saw several other firsts.

No World Cup would be complete without supporters, thus Qatar has made enormous efforts to create a memorable experience for football viewers of all ages in its many fan zones. Numerous activities can be done while watching sports on enormous screens provided by the fan zones. According to information released by the football governing organization, the massive FIFA Fan Festival in Al Bidda Park also welcomed its one-millionth visitor. The World Cup has been wonderful, with ground-breaking statistics and memorable events both on and off the field. The FIFA World Cup COO, Colin Smith, claimed that the fans were having a fantastic time in Doha and that the entire world was watching with bated breath.

Additionally, Qatar has defied criticism from western media that questioned its ability to hold the smallest iteration of the athletic event since 1930. Many spectators expressed their satisfaction with the smooth transportation between the stadiums, which, in contrast to past World Cups, allowed them to watch many matches on the same day. The Doha Metro and Lusail Tram networks, which made 9.19 million journeys with an average of 707,032 people each day, also showed this. A total of 3,321 transfers have taken place in and around the capital of the Gulf state since the tournament began as a result of teams’ ability to stay within a 10 km radius of one another.
