Pakistan Unveils its WhatsApp-Inspired App – ‘Beep’

As reported by ARY News, the government at the national level has launched Beep Pakistan, which is the first communication application in the country with similarities to WhatsApp.

The messaging app, introduced by Syed Amin Ul Haque, the minister responsible for information technology, has been designed as a local substitute for WhatsApp. The Beep Pakistan application was developed by the National Information Technology Board (NITB) to enhance communication and operational efficiency within government enterprises. Speaking at the ceremony, Syed Amin Ul Haque stated that Beep Pakistan offers features such as document sharing, secure messaging, quick audio, rapid video, and conference calls, with all data being securely hosted within Pakistan.

Initially, the app will be available for use by all government officers and officials after a one-month trial period. Following a successful year of government-level usage, the program will also be accessible to the general public. The minister further emphasized that the primary goal of the Beep Pakistan application is to facilitate secure and effective digital interactions among government officials and staff. According to Syed Amin Ul Haque, this program aims to modernize the way government workers collaborate, enhancing their productivity through efficient e-governance procedures.

 

Announcing a new stride towards a more sustainable and effective government, he expressed his enthusiasm. The Federal Minister of IT also commended the initiatives of the National Information Technology Board. Concerning digital Pakistan, he affirmed that the Ministry of IT is committed to realizing the vision of a digital Pakistan. He stressed that efforts are being made to bridge the digital divide.

The occasion featured speeches from Babar Majeed Bhatti, the CEO of the National Information Technology Board, Meraj Gul, the MD of NTC, and Ms. Aisha Humera Moriani, the additional secretary of the MoITT.
