Karachi: Thirty-Five Left Wounded During Independence Day Celebration

Up to 35 people were shot during midnight Independence Day celebrations in Karachi, five of whom were women.

In a North Karachi incident, security personnel fired shots to commemorate the country’s 75th Independence Day without taking into account the presence of nearby children, according to Geo News. Similar instances of aerial shooting have been recorded from Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 7, Bahadurabad, Yousuf Plaza, Liaquatabad, Gulbahar, Chakiwara, Soldier Bazaar, New Town, PIB Colony, and other locations. While this was going on, the police detained a guy who had been an aerial fire in the Eidgah ground area and confiscated his weapons.

According to police surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed’s breakdown of the total, three female patients between the ages of 15 and 50 were among the 15 injured people who were transported to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. She also noted that some of the victims were in severe condition and would require long-term care. Dr. Syed revealed that the medico-legal division of the Jinnah Post-Graduate Medical Center received reports of 24 incidents of aerial shooting. Three of those hurt were women. She claimed that the injured, included three women, ranging in age from eight to sixty. Dr. Syed said that five of them sustained head wounds from bullets, and three others sustained injuries to their abdomens.

Similarly, she stated that the medico-legal division of Dr. Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi received reports of 18 persons who had been hurt by aircraft firing. Six of the injured were female and ranged in age from 10 to 50.

A representative for the Edhi Foundation announced in a statement that their ambulances had transported 35 injured people to hospitals from various parts of the city. Four of them had been shot in Orangi Town, two in Liaquatabad, three in Lyari, four in Shah Faisal Colony, one in DHA Phase 2, one in Dhoraji Colony, one each in Urdu Bazaar, Karimabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and other places.

A representative for the Chhipa Welfare Association added that 23 injured people had been transported to hospitals by their ambulances from various regions. Meanwhile, Mohammed Ali, a suspect, was detained for engaging in aerial firing from a legal pistol, according to Bahadurabad Station House Officer Qurban Ali. Dr. Mohammed Imran Khan, the South Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) (Investigation), claimed that Mohammed Afnan, one of the suspects, was apprehended while using aerial fire at Eidgah.

He was found to be in possession of an 8-round magazine and a 9mm pistol. According to the SSP, the police have filed a complaint against the suspect under section 337-H of the Pakistan Penal Code (the penalty for hurt by hurry or negligent act) and other legislation.
