Justice Ayesha Malik and Sherry Rehman Included In Forbes’ 50 Over 50 List

In its list of Asia’s 50 over 50, Forbes has included climate change minister Sherry Rehman, who made headlines throughout the world at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) in 2022, and justice Ayesha Malik, who is the first woman to serve as a Supreme Court judge in the nation.

50 Asian-Pacific women over 50 who are pioneers in their areas and role models for the young of the region were highlighted by Forbes. According to the publication, these women are demonstrating that success can be achieved at any age in a variety of professions, including technology, medicine, art, politics, and more. This list was created by Forbes in collaboration with Mika Brzezinski and Know Your Value.

A new deal to send payments from wealthier nations to developing nations that have faced natural disasters linked to climate change was offered by Senator Rehman, 62, who was representing Pakistan at the climate summit. Her proposal attracted attention from around the world. As Pakistan’s ambassador to the US and a former journalist, Senator Rehman made history in 2018 when she was elected as the Senate’s first female Leader of the Opposition. She was appointed to the cabinet of Shehbaz Sharif in April 2022 as minister of climate change. The Nishan-e-Imtiaz, Pakistan’s highest civil award, is one of many accolades Rehman has received.

She received the R. L. Shep Textiles Book Award from the Textile Society of America for her coauthored book, Five Hundred Years of The Kashmiri Shawl, which was released in 2006. As one of the 25 Most Influential Women in 2022, the minister was also included in the Financial Times list. Ayesha Malik, who at the age of 56 became the first woman to serve as a justice of Pakistan’s Supreme Court, also represented Pakistan on the list. Before being appointed to the nation’s top court, Justice Malik spent ten years as a judge at the Lahore High Court. She rendered judgments about Pakistan’s acceptance of foreign arbitration and took part in the Green Bench, an organization that supported environmental justice.

A historic ruling prohibiting virginity tests in rape cases was made by Justice Malik in 2021. She has served as the head of the committee for female judicial officers as well as a member of the board of the Punjab Judicial Academy. Vicki Brady, the country’s largest telecommunications business by market share and the first female CEO of Telstra, is among the other women listed on the list.

Brady persevered despite receiving a breast cancer diagnosis in 2018. Also, a popular pick was Singaporean Chew Gek Khim, who “modernized a colonial-era tin smelting interest into a diversified property and hospitality conglomerate.” Six ladies on the list were from India. Women from various walks of life, including those from Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, and other nations, were observed shining with pride for their home nations.
