Google BARD Demo Failure: Did Microsoft Make Google “Dance”?

Before the infamous BARD failure, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella asserted that AI might outperform Google in the search market.

He stated that he has the “highest admiration” for Google in an interview with The Verge, adding that he wanted people to know that “we made them [Google] dance.” As a result of its new chatbot BARD giving incorrect responses and misleading information in a business event and a promotional video, Alphabet experienced a $100 billion decline in market value on Wednesday, raising worries that the parent company Google is losing ground to rival Microsoft.

Google has been in turmoil since OpenAI, a firm in which Microsoft is investing $10 billion, released ChatGPT in November, which stunned users and caused a sensation in Silicon Valley circles for its startlingly accurate and well-written answers to simple inquiries.

A GIF that Google posted on Twitter depicts BARD responding to a query. What recent findings from the James Webb Space Telescope can I discuss with my 9-year-old? The telescope “took the very first photographs of a planet outside of our solar system,” according to one of the three bullet points Bard provides as an explanation. Astronomers quickly clarified, however, that this is untrue and that, as stated on NASA’s website, the first image of an exoplanet was taken in 2004. Upon being questioned about whether he anticipates “new head-on rivalry against Google’s most important product to impact their relationship,” Nadella responded in the negative. “We’re introducing something new, so perhaps they’ll want to show off their dancing skills.

Furthermore, I want everyone to know that we made them dance because I believe that will make for a wonderful day.” By a “substantial margin,” according to Nadella, Google had long held the market’s top spot. He also expressed his optimism for further innovation and competition. Other competitors will be present in addition to us.

According to The Verge, he said that this would increase the revenue for both publishers and marketers. According to a Reuters study, Chatbot AI systems pose hazards for businesses due to biases in their algorithms that can skew results, sexualize photographs, or even plagiarize, as users who have tested the service have found.
