Former Tennis Star Maria Sharapova Welcomes First Baby at 35

Former world number one and five-time Grand Slam winner Maria Sharapova has revealed that she gave birth to a son called Theodore.

Theodore is the couple’s first child, and the 35-year-old Russian tennis player announced her engagement to British businessman Alexander Gilkes in December 2020. They dated for a period before getting engaged, and Alexander Gilkes is 42 years old. Following the excellent news, Maria Sharapova’s admirers appeared ecstatic and sent their wishes for a beautiful future to the tennis star and her newborn baby.

In April of this year, Maria Sharapova made her pregnancy known. The Russian tennis pro is one of only 10 female athletes to have won all four major singles titles at least once in order to complete the career Grand Slam.

Maria Sharapova captioned a photo she shared on Instagram on Friday, “The most beautiful, demanding, and rewarding gift our small family could wish for.” In the caption, she added some Roman numerals to show that Theodore was born on July 1. 2020 marked Maria Sharapova’s retirement from tennis following a successful playing career. At the age of 17, she captured her first major championship at Wimbledon in 2004. She went on to win the US Open in 2006, the Australian Open in 2008, and the French Open in 2012 and 2014.

At the Olympics in London in 2012, she also took home a silver medal. American Serena Williams defeated Maria Sharapova in the championship match. On numerous social media sites, Maria Sharapova’s admirers also expressed their congratulations on the birth of the child.

Maria Sharapova and her fiancé Alexander Gilkes revealed in April 2022 that they were expecting their first child. On her 35th birthday, the former tennis ace announced her pregnancy via an Instagram post, praising the arrival of ‘beautiful beginnings’. She uploaded a picture of herself grinning at the camera and caressing her developing baby belly while standing on a beach.

Actress Lily Collins and Australian model Lara Worthington were among the many friends and family members who quickly congratulated the pair in the comments. The couple, who made their relationship known to the public in 2018, announced their engagement on their respective Instagram profiles at the time.

Gilkes was previously wed to Misha Nonoo, a fashion designer and Meghan Markle companion, from 2012 to 2016. This will be his second marriage. In 2011, Sharapova and Sasha Bujai, a former professional basketball player, became engaged. However, they later broke it up. She then began dating tennis star Grigor Dimitrov from Bulgaria before meeting her future husband and child’s father.
