Female SSP Receives Prestigious International Award in New Zealand

In a significant acknowledgment of her steadfast dedication to law enforcement and her relentless endeavors to combat violence targeting women, Sonia Shamroz Khan, currently serving as the District Police Officer of Battagram in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), received the prestigious ‘Police Officer of the Year’ award from the International Association of Women Police.

The recognition ceremony took place in Auckland, New Zealand, where SSP Sonia Shamroz Khan, who has also previously served as the district police officer in Chitral, was honored. Among her notable achievements is the establishment of a specialized complaint cell aimed at addressing grievances related to forced marriages, a prevailing issue in the region.

According to reports, SSP Shamroz Khan has dedicated her award to both the victims of gender discrimination and the determined women police officers who continue to work tirelessly in challenging circumstances. She stressed the vital contribution of female officers in maintaining peace and security within communities.

Serving in the remote Battagram district, SSP Shamroz Khan’s compassionate approach, which takes cultural values and sensitivities into account, has notably enhanced the reporting of crimes against women.
