Chief traffic constable busted while eating Kulfi in Bhakkar!

BHAKKAR: A chief traffic constable was nabbed while enjoying Kulfi in Bhakkar city of Punjab as the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) of Punjab caught him red-handed for getting a bribe of Rs. 18000, it emerged on Tuesday.

Many of the local news channels reported the incident after a video surfaced in which the personnel of the Anti-Corruption Department of Punjab can be seen entering the traffic police’s local station in which the accused, who is identified as Chief Constable Muhammad Idrees, was spotted beating the heat with a kulfi [a frozen dairy dessert originating in the Indian subcontinent].

The ACE officials, who have a repute to arrest junior staff for bribery, apprehended the Chief Constable for corruption.

In the viral clip, the officials of the anti-corruption watchdog took the kulfi from him and checked his pockets and they recovered an amount of Rs. 18000 bribes from the front pockets of his uniform.

Later, the officials also shared the clip on the department’s social media handle with a cryptic caption.

“Eating kulfi is only pleasing if it earned through Halal means”, it stated while adding the arrest of the Idrees.

Netizens seem amused with the caption and act itself as traffic wardens across the country hold a bad repute for their involvement in such acts. Many of the social media users even approach senior officials about the behavior of traffic cops while no major action has been taken.

Meanwhile, as some hailed the Anti-Corruption officials, others questioned the accountability culture in the South Asian country which currently ranked 124 out of 180 countries in the recently released Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) by Transparency International.

Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan approved to launch an inquiry against corrupt bureaucrats and police officials as he met with Director General Anti-Corruption. Khan directed DG Anti Corruption to take indiscriminate action against corrupt elements and assured the complete support of the government.
