BLA identifies woman suicide attacker as Shari Baloch, Mphil Scholar, mother of two

Baloch Liberation Army after claiming responsibility for the recent suicide attack at Karachi University revealed the identity of the lady behind the blast.

A CCTV video had surfaced on social media showing how a lady suicide bomber targeted a van carrying Karachi University officials.

As the vehicle approached the Confucius Institute, a Chinese Language Teaching Centre associated with Karachi University, the burqa-clad female suicide bomber detonated herself.

Four individuals were killed in the blast, three of whom were Chinese nationals, and several others were injured.

Shari Baluch, the suicide attacker who detonated herself, was a Mphil scholar with two master’s degrees, according to the BLA local commander of the Majeed Brigade.

Her spouse is a doctor, and she is a mother of two children.

The blast killed four foreigners and a local, according to Karachi police chief Ghulam Nabi.

“We’ve received reports that they’re Chinese,” he claimed, adding that the Chinese were teachers at the Confucius Institute.

The bombing was the first major attack in Pakistan targeting Chinese nationals since a suicide bomber blew up a passenger bus in northern Pakistan, killing 13 people, including nine Chinese workers at a hydropower project, in July of last year.

Two killed in blast at Indian court building

Other attacks on Chinese workers in Pakistan have occurred in the region of Balochistan, where separatist militants have waged a decades-long conflict against authorities.

In Gawadar, Balochistan, Beijing is developing a deep-water port as part of President Xi Jinping’s Belt and Road initiative to seek trade links with the rest of the world, which includes the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
