In connection with an alleged cheating case, an Indian court in Kolkata has issued an arrest warrant for Bollywood actor Zareen Khan.
According to Indian news reports, the Kolkata court issued the arrest warrant for actor Zareen Khan on Sunday in a case involving alleged dishonesty dating back to 2018. According to the charge sheet presented by the investigating officer in the case before the Sealdah court, the actor stands accused of accepting INR 12.5 lakh from an event management business for the opening of six communal Kali Puja pandals around the city but failing to fulfill the agreement.
The lower court issued the arrest warrant for Khan after she did not contest her refusal to appear in court or request bail in the case. In the most recent development in the case, Rizwan Siddiquee, the actor’s attorney, spoke on her behalf. “On behalf of my client, Ms. Zareen Khan, I would like to firmly state the following for the record: Any warrant issued by the Magistrate seems to have arisen due to a clear miscommunication. My client has consistently received protection from the Honorable High Court of Calcutta in this matter,” he declared.
Additionally, her attorney stated in the same statement that she was the victim of deception and that the event’s organizers led her to believe that the West Bengal state government, specifically the Chief Minister, the Sports Minister, and the Ex-Sports Minister, were behind the organization of the event. In her defense, Khan informed the media that she believed the allegations were baseless. She expressed her surprise and mentioned that she was currently consulting with her lawyer to gain a better understanding of the situation before providing any further information.
