WATCH: Royal Guard Guarding the Coffin of the Queen Collapses

On Wednesday evening in Westminster Hall, a guard keeping watch close to Queen Elizabeth’s casket suddenly collapsed in front of a large gathering of mourners.

Around one in the morning, the royal guard, who was clutching a ceremonial staff and was standing at the base of the late monarch’s casket, suddenly fell forward to the ground. The guard tripped on the podium and fell to the ground while wearing a black uniform and wielding a staff. The tragedy shocked the large gatherings of mourners. He was soon helped by the cops before returning to his post.

At Westminster Hall in London, tens of thousands of mourners formed enormous lines that spanned about five kilometers to pay their final respects to the late queen, who passed away on September 8 at the age of 96. The Sovereign’s Bodyguard, the Household Division, or the Yeoman Warders of the Tower of London provide round-the-clock security for the Queen’s casket. On September 19, Her Majesty’s state funeral will take place at Westminster Abbey.

In the middle of Westminster Hall, on a purple catafalque atop a scarlet platform, was the coffin of the late Queen. It was draped in the Royal Standard flag and topped with an arrangement of the floral wreath and the Imperial State Crown perched on a cushion. Soldiers and “Beefeaters,” the red-coated warders typically stationed at the Tower of London, kept watching while hunched over. On Wednesday afternoon, the coffin was carried from Buckingham Palace to the hall on top of a gun carriage and was accompanied by troops wearing scarlet ceremonial uniforms.

As Queen Elizabeth lay in state in London’s historic Westminster Hall, mourners from all walks of life paid their final respects to the country’s longest-reigning head of state before her funeral on Monday.

Security Guard Survives Being Struck by Lightning

This was the chance for regular people to directly participate in a ceremony after days of processions and rituals as the queen’s body was transported to London from Balmoral, Scotland, where she passed away last Thursday at the age of 96. After days of planned activities, King Charles returned to his Highgrove estate in the southern English county of Gloucestershire. Before the lying-in-state concludes on Monday at 6.30 a.m. (0730 GMT), officials anticipated that some 750,000 visitors would view his mother’s coffin.

A replica of Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and Tower Bridge were among the notable sights along the line’s several-mile path along the south bank of the River Thames. As it got closer to Westminster Hall, the railway crossed Lambeth Bridge. The majority were Britons, although some were foreigners. They featured both young and old people, as well as babies being held by their parents and former warriors wearing medals. Many people paused to pay their respects by the casket. Some people attended on behalf of their aging parents, while others came to see history and express their gratitude to the monarch who, despite ascending to the throne in 1952, was still holding official government meetings two days before her passing.
