Virgin Atlantic Ceases Operations in Pakistan: Final Flight Marks the End of an Era

After declaring earlier in the year that it would stop running flights between London Heathrow, Lahore, and Islamabad, Virgin Atlantic flew its last flight from Islamabad International Airport.

According to a statement from a spokeswoman for the Civil Aviation Authority, a Virgin Atlantic flight departed Islamabad for London’s Heathrow Airport around 8 a.m. on Sunday. In December 2020, Virgin Atlantic began running seven flights per week out of Islamabad Airport. The airline initially operated three flights to Heathrow Airport and four to Manchester. A representative for the airline later stated that they scaled back operations to only three flights per week to Heathrow.

Customers who wanted to travel between Islamabad and London could do so on Virgin Atlantic’s excellent aircraft. On this occasion, COO/Airport Manager Syed Aftab Gilani expressed his gratitude to the Virgin Atlantic team for offering top-notch air travel services. In the future, he expressed hope that Virgin Atlantic Airlines might fly to Pakistan. However, a Virgin Atlantic spokeswoman stated, “As we continue to ramp up our flying program in 2023, we’ve taken the opportunity to review our entire network and decided to make a few changes.” Regrettably, as a result of this review, we have decided to cease our services between London Heathrow and Pakistan.

Since we started operations in December 2020, we have been pleased to provide customers traveling between London and Manchester in the United Kingdom and Islamabad and Lahore in Pakistan with a variety of options.

During this period, we have also delivered critical medical supplies and offered significant cargo capacity, the spokeswoman said. We apologize for any trouble this may have caused. This is not a decision we have made lightly. He went on to say, “We want to extend our heartfelt appreciation to all the people in Pakistan who have supported us throughout the previous two years, which encompasses our customers, employees, collaborators, and the authorities.”
