VC University of the Punjab announces relief camp at PU properties in Khanispur for victims of Murree snow storm

Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad has directed Khanispur Campus to be converted into a relief camp for shelter and other facilities to stranded people in the area.

 Dr Niaz Ahmad in a tweet extented the services of PU facilities for the people stuck in the Murree sector area.

In his tweet, he said that the people facing difficulties in the area could reside and avail other related services at Khanispur Campus free-of-cost. 

 

It is pertinent to mention here that the traffic jam that took around 20 lives occurred on the road from Murree to Nathia Gali. Khanispur campuses of PU are located just a few kilometer before Nathia Gali. 

Hundreds tweeters applauded the smart and rightly timed response of the PU under the tweet of the VC. People were of the view it was a smart move because Khanispur lies almost in the middle of the track between Murree and Nathia Gali, where this chaos took place. 

Thousands of tourists descended on the hill area on Friday to observe the snowfall, which caused major traffic congestion on the Murree-Islamabad Highway. adding to the traffic jam a snow storm hit the area that night pour down record breaking snow. 

Many tourist died allegedly by the emission of CO inside the car while vehicles were covered by snow.

Meanwhile, the highway police and local government are still busy assisting tourists out of the deadly traffic jam.

The procedure for returning the cars from Murree had begun Sunday morning.
