US to Permit Direct Air Access to Pakistan soon

Since Joe Biden’s administration has promised Pakistan that it is prepared to take action for the resume of direct Pakistan International Airlines flights to the US, a significant development in relations between Pakistan and the US is anticipated.

Salman Sufi, the head of the prime minister’s strategic reforms unit, met with Elizabeth Horst, the deputy assistant secretary of state for the Bureau of South and Central Asia, at the US Department of State, according to a statement issued by the Pakistani Embassy in Washington.

Sufi underlined Shehbaz Sharif’s plan for strategic changes at the discussion and spoke about methods to improve bilateral ties between the two nations. Sufi met with the delegation from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Department of Transportation (DOT), and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) as part of PM Shehbaz’s reforms and urged them to move the process for the resume of PIA direct flights from Pakistan to the United States as quickly as possible.

He added that the US Chamber of Commerce would choose a representative for the Karachi Port. He said that the investment was a result of Shehbaz Sharif’s policies as prime minister. To resume direct flights, the US side conveyed its readiness to have technical conversations with the Civil Aviation Authority and other relevant departments and undertake appropriate visits, according to a statement.

Sufi claims that Saad Rafique, the Federal Minister for Aviation, has been working diligently for several months to resume direct flights from the US, and they anticipate that all of the necessary preparations would be finished within the next six to nine months. As this process will help the traders save time and money, he continued, we have also urged the US Department of Agriculture the appointment of its offices at the US Consulate in Karachi for pre-clearance and inspection of export commodities.

Earlier, Salman Sufi met with Pakistani-American tech entrepreneurs at the Pakistani Embassy in Washington via video conference. He claimed that by technological interventions, Pakistan is being re-geared and rebuilt toward a cashless economy to maximize convenience for business people, investors, and entrepreneurs. He added that the administration is implementing several measures to get rid of any barriers that stand in the path of business people and investors.

Salman Sufi stated that the digitization of all government payments has also received the prime minister’s approval, creating a significant market opportunity for FinTech firms. Masood Khan, Pakistan’s ambassador to the US, stated that the government is committed to giving the efforts in the IT sector the necessary support.

He claimed that the US business community is prepared to invest in Pakistan after conducting due diligence, and semiconductors have been selected as a top priority.
