KARACHI: Pakistani legend comedian and actor Umer Sharif has granted a US visa on Thursday (today), as the 66-year-old is set to be airlifted to United States’ capital for his treatment.
The development was shared by PPP leader and new Karachi administrator Murtaza Wahab who took to his official handle where he wrote “Happy to inform you that visa interviews of Omer Sharif Sahab’s family have taken place today [Thursday]. Very grateful to the US consulate for exempting the presence of Omer Bhai for issuance of visa. Let us all continue to pray for the good health of one of the greatest comedians of the subcontinent”.

Sindh government spokesperson also added that he is pleased to inform that visa interviews have taken place today without Sharif’s physical presence before the consulate. He also urged everyone to pray for Sharif’s health.
Meanwhile, the 66-year-old, who has been suffering from multiple ailments including cardiovascular issues along with cancer, is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the Sindh capital. The medical board formed by government officials has also allowed Sharif to fly abroad for treatment.
Earlier, the Sindh government has released Rs40 million for Sharif’s treatment while the funds will be used to cover the expense of an air ambulance and other related costs for Sharif’s treatment in Washington where the husband of Reema Khan, Dr. Syed Tariq Shahab, will perform the high-risk surgery.
The wife of the ailing comedian also vowed support to him in a recent post. Zareen Omer promised to arrange all that he needs to fight cancer as she shared an old picture with her better half.“I will try to get everything for your treatment InshaAllah which I promised with you in the hospital”, she wrote.
She also expressed displeasure in another post over social media pages that shared private pictures from the hospital. “I would like to state and request that just for some likes and share don’t share anything without confirmation Please”, the post reads.
It all started with Sharif’s message which was broadcasted on prime time show on private news in which the ailing TV personality requested the officials to make travel arrangements to the US or else he will have to undergo the open-heart procedure in Pakistan which also comes with a number of consequences owing to his deteriorating health.
