Tragedy Unfolds: Six Journalists Lose Their Lives in Gaza Within 24-Hour

Six journalists and media workers have been killed in Gaza in the last 24 hours, according to data from a Palestinian press watchdog. Two additional journalists and two media workers were reported killed, based on information collected by the Palestinian press watchdog MADA, the Palestinian Press Syndicate, and videos verified by Al Jazeera. It is important to mention that yesterday, Israeli troops ordered the evacuation of Al-Shifa hospital ‘in the next hour’ over loudspeakers on Saturday, as reported by an AFP journalist at the scene. Troops combed the facility for Hamas hideouts.

Al-Shifa Hospital, Gaza’s largest, has become the focus of the Israel-Hamas war, now entering its seventh week after the October 7 attacks on southern Israel. Israel alleges that Hamas is operating a base beneath Al-Shifa, a claim the militants deny. According to the United Nations, about 2,300 individuals, including patients, staff, and displaced Palestinians, were taking refuge at Al-Shifa before Israeli forces entered on Wednesday.

The Hamas health ministry in Gaza reported numerous deaths at the hospital due to power cuts caused by fuel shortages amid intense conflict. Despite Israel urging the hospital’s evacuation to the south, medical professionals argue that moving the patients is not feasible. The director of the hospital, Mohammed Abu Salmiya, stated that Israeli troops instructed him to ensure the evacuation of patients, the wounded, displaced individuals, and medical staff, with the directive that they should travel on foot toward the seafront.
