A common leopard entered a bustling fruit and vegetable market in the Parachinar area of the Kurram tribal district in search of food, surprising everyone and resulting in four people getting injured.
Teams from the Wildlife department, the army, and the police swiftly responded to the crisis, united in their mission to safely capture the elusive cat. According to a district administration representative who spoke to The Express Tribune, the common leopard had invaded the fruit market, causing several unsettling encounters and ultimately prompting panic among customers. The leopard then sought refuge in a storage area, but alert workers managed to apprehend it and confine it there.
This rare incident marked a first for the city of Parachinar and presented a unique challenge. The specialized equipment required to safely sedate the animal was not available to local authorities. Consequently, a specialized team from Peshawar was dispatched to assist in capturing the leopard without causing harm.
“This team, in coordination with Rescue 1122, the army, and the district government, will strive to carry out the mission without harming the wild creature,” stated Munsif Ali, a representative of Wildlife.
