Sonya Hussyn Sues Urwa Hocane on Payment Issue

Actress Sonya Hussyn has sent producer Urwa Hocane of her upcoming movie Tich Button a legal notice citing a “breach in contract” prior to its eagerly anticipated theatrical debut.

It alleges that Sonya’s contractual obligations, as violated by the Udaari actor, were not met. The Saraab actor’s legal team reminded Urwa that she “entered into a contractual” agreement with their client, Sonya, under the terms and conditions of which, she was obligated to pay her a certain amount upon the completion of Tich Button’s shooting, which she did not, in the legal notice dated October 22 that was shared with The Express Tribune. The movie’s production ran from February 2 until June 5 of the same year.

According to the notice, Sonya fulfilled her end of the bargain in accordance with their contract’s terms and conditions, and that too in “unusual circumstances” like the coronavirus pandemic. However, despite numerous requests and reminders, Urwa “did not make the specified payment on one pretext or another, which amounts to pure breach of contract.” The notification continues, stating that the Meri Shehzadi actor “fraudulently” attempted to pay Hussyn Rs500, 000 after a significant amount of time, “in stark contradiction and blatant violation of contract,” “as full and final compensation for her efforts with reference to the film.”

The “Mohabbat Tujhe Alvida” actor refused categorically to be a “victim of your [Urwa’s] dishonest ploy,” returning the check “with immediate effect.” Sonya is requesting the “still unpaid” amount specified in the contract. In addition, she has asked for Rs 5 million in “general damages” within 14 days of receiving the notification for the “unwanted and undesirable conditions” brought on by the producer. Distress, disbelief, mental anguish, humiliation, and embarrassment are to blame for this.

If the demands are not met, the notice states that Sonya’s legal team has been given “express instructions” to “institute appropriate civil and criminal legal proceedings, including without limitation, lodging a FIR, under the relevant provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code, 1860, for criminal breach of trust, cheating, fraud and misrepresentation.” In the event that the demands are not met, the team has also been instructed to initiate a civil lawsuit in order to “seek recovery of the money, general damages; and attachment of your [Urwa’s] immovable and moveable assets.”

The nationwide release of Tich Button, starring Feroze Khan, Hussyn, Farhan Saeed, Sohail Ahmed, Marina Khan, and Iman Ali, is set for November 11 after years of delay. It is important to note that the legal warning was only given to Urwa, even though Tich Button was also produced by Salman Iqbal, Jerjees Seja, and Farhan Saeed. Additionally, Sonya skipped a recent movie promotion in Karachi, including the unveiling of the trailer.
