Due to the recent surge in smog levels, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Punjab has announced the implementation of a targeted lockdown in 10 districts across the province, as reported by ARY News.
Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan, Sahiwal, and Sargodha divisions, which consistently rank high among the world’s most polluted cities, will be subject to this smart lockdown. In these districts, educational institutions are shut, and various establishments such as markets, shops, cinemas, and restaurants are to remain closed until 3 pm, according to the official notification.
The citizens were cautioned by the environmental department about the smog, as the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) reached 379, making Lahore the most polluted city globally. Experts recommended that residents wear face masks and adopt necessary precautions to address the smog issue. Officials from the Punjab government urged both citizens and industrialists to collaborate with authorities in tackling this environmental crisis.
