A person armed with a gun initiated gunfire within the premises of the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) located in Peshawar’s judicial complex.
According to media reports, one person was killed, and three others were injured in the incident. Witnesses at the scene described the alleged shooter as having disguised himself as a lawyer and firing shots inside the ATC, causing panic throughout the judicial complex. Law enforcement responded urgently to the situation as four individuals suffered severe injuries. The injured victims were quickly transported to the hospital, but unfortunately, one of them succumbed to their injuries before reaching the medical facility, as disclosed by Muhammad Asim, the spokesperson for Lady Reading Hospital.
The attacker has been arrested by police from the premises. He was one of the opponents in the case of which the hearing was taking place. As per the hospital’s spokesperson, “Four people were brought to the hospital – one deceased and three injured.” As per senior journalist Iftikhar Firdous, the assailant involved in the incident has been apprehended by the police within the premises.
The individual was a participant in a case slated for a hearing. Firdous expressed concerns about courtroom security in a tweet posted on X, stating, “Is this the level of security in a courtroom?” Nevertheless, ongoing investigations aim to determine the motives behind the attack and identify the assailant.
