Shadab Khan takes away Shahid Afridi’s left over record

Ahead of England in the T20 World Cup final on Sunday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Pakistan’s vice-captain with the white ball Shadab Khan became the country’s all-time leading wicket-taker in T20 Internationals.

When he bowled out England’s Harry Brook, the 24-year-old recorded his 98th wicket in the shortest format. With the same number of wickets in 99 games, Shadab overtook former Pakistani captain Shahid Afridi. Shadab ended with a 1/20 from his allowed four overs in his 84th T20I. He tied Afridi’s record of 97 wickets during the Men in Green’s game against Bangladesh at the Adelaide Oval, moving him up to joint-highest wicket-taker.

The 24-year-old bowler claimed his 97th wicket after 82 matches. Today was his 84th game. Gul is listed third, followed by Saeed Ajmal, who has taken 85 wickets in T20 matches. With 70 kills, Haris Rauf rises to the sixth position. But in the Melbourne championship game, Pakistan was heartbreakingly lost to England. England’s captain Jos Buttler decided the toss and asked Pakistan to bat first. As England restricted Pakistan to a modest total of 137/8 in 20 overs, Sam Curran and Adil Rashid displayed outstanding control with the ball.

Rashid and Chris Jordan each took a couple of wickets, but Curran, who finished with three, was the go-to bowler. With a 28-ball 38 and a 28-ball 32, Shan Masood and Babar Azam respectively topped Pakistan’s scoring. While England was attempting to reach a target of 138, they were stunned by the early dismissals of Phil Salt and Alex Hales. Jos Buttler kept them going with a cameo of 26 runs before being knocked out by Haris Rauf in the fourth over. England finally won the match with an over and five wickets left thanks to Ben Stokes’ unbeaten 50 off 49 deliveries. England won the T20 World Cup in the past, in 2010. They are now the first group to hold the ODI and T20 World Cups at the same time.

Shadab Khan played a pivotal role in Pakistan’s victory over South Africa at the Sydney Cricket Ground, winning by a score of 185-9 in 20 overs. With three fours and four massive sixes, the 24-year-old scored 52 runs off of 22 balls. With their 82-run partnership, Iftikhar Ahmed and Shadab Khan were able to counteract the decline of Pakistan’s batting order. With this effort, Shadab Khan has become the second hitter in Pakistan to score 50 runs in a T20 game.
