Section 144 Implemented Lahore As PTI all set to “Fill the Prison” Tomorrow

In order to prevent any untoward incidents, the Punjab government on Monday issued a complete ban on all gatherings, sit-ins, rallies, processions, demonstrations, and similar activities in certain parts of the city, one day before the start of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) court arrest movement.

A sizable group of PTI employees and lawmakers are anticipated to assemble near Charing Cross on The Mall on Wednesday (tomorrow) to declare themselves willing to be arrested in response to the party chairman Imran Khan’s appeal. If they are not detained by the police, they are also likely to hold a sit-in for an indefinite amount of time.

Section 144 has been enforced on The Mall from Mian Mir Bridge to Istanbul Chowk and its immediate surroundings, according to a notification sent out by the provincial home department late Monday night. This also applies to the PTI chairman Imran Khan’s residence in Zaman Park, which has served as the site of daily meetings for party members since November 2022. Similarly, protests and sit-ins are not permitted outside the Punjab Civil Secretariat or on Gulberg main boulevard, Lahore. The duration of this order is seven days. According to the notifications, the deputy commissioner of Lahore reported that the Gulberg main boulevard Lahore and Mall Road have historical significance because they contain sensitive and important historical installations as well as commercial hubs.

This led to the ban on rallies in these areas, which is stated to be a result of this report. Due to their importance, several rallies and protests are staged there every day, posing severe security risks as well as causing traffic disruptions and trouble to the general public.

Expressway to link Gulberg Lahore to M2 approved

In the past, terrorist activity at Charing Cross, a popular location for rallies and protests, has resulted in the martyrdom of several police officers and civilians. The Pakistan Super League (PSL), which will begin on February 26 in Lahore, has also been mentioned as a justification for the restriction on gatherings because many spectators are likely to visit Qaddafi stadium.
