Remembering Operation Swift Retort on 4th anniversary

Operation Swift Retort was a military operation conducted by the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) in response to Indian Air Force’s (IAF) airstrike on Balakot, Pakistan in February 2019.

The operation was named “Swift Retort” to signify Pakistan’s swift and decisive response to the Indian airstrike.

On February 26, 2019, the Indian Air Force carried out an airstrike on what it claimed to be a terrorist training camp in Balakot, Pakistan.

In response, on February 27, 2019, the Pakistan Air Force launched a counter-attack against Indian military targets. The PAF shot down two Indian fighter jets and captured an Indian pilot, who was later released as a goodwill gesture.

Operation Swift Retort was seen as a major escalation in the conflict between India and Pakistan, and there were fears of a full-scale war between the two nuclear-armed nations.

However, both sides eventually stepped back and tensions eased.
