Raja Zia ul Haq’s YouTube Channel Taken Down for Allegedly Inciting Religious Violence

Raja Zia ul Haq, a life coach, and educator from Islamabad, had his YouTube channel removed.

In a video discussing the incident, the content creator mentioned that they had uncertainties about the reasons behind the channel’s takedown. Haq has amassed over 666,000 subscribers on YouTube, where he released approximately a thousand videos covering a variety of subjects. These topics primarily revolved around life’s challenges, politics, education, and the intersection of religion with other matters of faith. Haq is identified as the CEO of Youth Club, and its YouTube channel, boasting 1.25 million members, remains active.

Moreover, with 1.25 million subscribers, Tuaha Ibn Jalil, the country manager of Youth Club, maintains a functional YouTube channel. All these channels share a common religious focus. Numerous people shared their perspectives on Haq’s videos and thoughts, reacting to the actions taken by YouTube, during the Wednesday. This resulted in a considerable uproar on social media platforms.

Haq responded to the situation on Wednesday by posting a video for his 600,000-plus Facebook fans and 444,000-plus Instagram followers. He stated, “We have appealed it,” before adding, “Our YouTube channel has been removed or canceled. We are currently investigating the circumstances to determine the cause. While there is work to be done on our end, we are hopeful that everything will be restored, insha’Allah.” Haq continued by reflecting on the limited space left for free speech.

He commented that in our current age, the act of disrespecting the Holy Quran or producing offensive caricatures and sacrilegious material is being viewed as a form of freedom of speech and self-expression. He further stated that expressing your viewpoints on YouTube reasonably and coherently, supported by strong evidence-based arguments, faces censorship and isn’t considered true freedom of speech or expression. He reiterated their dedication to persist in their endeavors for as long as they’re alive, displaying perseverance that extends beyond their era.

Haq pointed out that when the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) proclaimed the Kalma-e-Tawheed, there were individuals who opposed and were offended by it. “Our scholars often say that if your efforts to spread God’s message go unopposed, you might be doing something wrong,” he explained. Haq emphasized that whenever you articulate the truth or advocate for fairness, there will always be people with contrasting viewpoints.
