Prince Harry claims he was physically assaulted by Prince William

According to The Guardian, Prince Harry has claimed that his brother, Prince William, physically assaulted him during a dispute over his wife, Meghan Markle, in 2019.

The Duke of Sussex is said to have claimed that his brother William, the Prince of Wales, knocked him to the ground during the altercation in an advance copy of his highly awaited memoir, Spare, which the UK daily claims to have seen. The two brothers allegedly got into a fight after William, the heir to the British throne, described Markle as “difficult,” “rude,” and “aggressive,” according to The Guardian. According to The Guardian, the argument got out of hand until William “grabbed me by the collar, ripped my necklace, and… knocked me to the floor”.

CNN has asked the book’s publisher, Penguin Random House, for an advance copy, but has not heard back. A representative for the Sussex’s, Kensington Palace, Buckingham Palace, and all three refused CNN’s request for comment on the purported altercation. The Guardian story focuses on the claimed physical conflict between the brothers but calls the entire book a “remarkable volume” despite its focus on one particular incident. By Harry’s version of events, William allegedly paid a visit to Harry and Meghan at their former home, Nottingham Cottage, which is located on the grounds of Kensington Palace, to discuss “the whole rolling catastrophe” of their relationship and their issues with the media. The Guardian reports that Harry alleges William attacked him after he gave him water and attempted to cool down a heated debate.

He called me another name before coming at me, according to Harry, who is quoted in the article. Everything happened very quickly. So quickly. He took my necklace off, grabbed me by the collar, and threw me to the ground. When I landed on the dog’s bowl, my back was sliced by the fragments as they shattered. I lay there for a few periods, confused, before rising to my feet and ordering him to leave. According to the story, Harry claims in the book that William pushed him to retaliate but he refused. According to the Guardian piece, which quoted the book, William left but later came back “looking sorry” and apologized. The release of Spare is scheduled for January 10.

Since Harry and Meghan’s wedding in 2018, their relationship has been the subject of intense media scrutiny, with the Duchess of Sussex receiving particular attention. Harry recently accused the media of putting Meghan under unnecessary stress, which caused her to miscarry and have suicidal thoughts, a Netflix documentary. The pair claimed that constant media attention forced them to resign from their positions as members of the Royal family. In the six-part documentary, Harry said that at first, he didn’t handle Meghan’s deteriorating mental health “very well.”

“I knew she was having trouble; we were both having trouble, but I never imagined it would go to that point. I was upset and ashamed that it had come to that point, Harry said, adding that he had handled the situation more like an institution than as a husband. Without naming the person she claims stopped her, Meghan stated she wanted to get help but wasn’t permitted to because she was worried about how it would appear to the institution. In her explosive 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, she made similar remarks.
