In Portugal, a man is said to have killed three men with a gun before turning the gun on himself in what has been characterized as a feud over the breeding of racing pigeons.
Setubal, a city located around 50 kilometers (30 miles) south of Lisbon, was the scene of the incident.
The dispute reportedly stemmed from homing pigeons and an unlicensed vegetable plot, according to local media. It was said that the victims were slain while competing in a pigeon racing tournament. The 66-year-old suspect committed suicide, according to CNN Portugal, when police arrived on the scene on Sunday morning.
Police chief in Setubal, Andreia Gonçalves, called the deaths “an isolated situation” involving an unresolved conflict between the males. The Publico news site was informed by a source in the Judiciary Police that the argument concerned the breeding of the pigeons.
The suspect’s and the victims’ identities have not yet been made public. According to reports, the shooter lived in Setubal in a tent. Police are conducting an investigation. Despite having severe gun prohibitions, Portugal allows the use of weapons for hunting.
