Police tops most corrupt institutes of Pakistan list: TIP Report

The judiciary is ranked as the third-most corrupt institution in Pakistan, behind the police and the tendering and contracting industries. Intriguingly, the education sector has risen to the fourth spot in a nation where more than 20 million kids are not in school.

The information was gathered through a poll called the National Corruption Perception Survey (NCPS) 2022, which was carried out by Transparency International Pakistan (TIP). People were asked to rank the many Pakistani ministries and institutions where irregularities, bribery, and other unethical behavior are most common. The police department earned the first notorious spot based on the replies extrapolated from responses from people from various backgrounds.

Even though the general public is not directly involved in the tendering and contracting process for public development projects, they rank it as the second most corrupt, most likely due to the results. The country’s judiciary hasn’t been able to provide justice to the litigants despite grand claims over the years because they believe the scales of justice have always been tipped in favor of the powerful. They rank it as the third most corrupt institution because of this. The three aforementioned sectors are followed by the education sector, which has also attained the top rank. The three most corrupt sectors are broken down by province into the following:

Sindh: Tendering and contracting ranked third in terms of corruption, with police coming in second. Education remained the most corrupt industry in Sindh.

Punjab: The most corrupt industry in Punjab continues to be the police, followed by contracting and tendering and the judiciary.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), the judiciary came out on top, tendering and contracting took second place, and police performance was comparatively better than that of the general population, which came in third.

Balochistan: The police are still the most corrupt organization in Balochistan, followed by tendering and contracting. The respondents placed the judiciary third. The survey respondents also criticized alleged corruption in the recent transfer of help to Pakistan following a disaster. They argued that to maintain transparency, corrupt judges, legislators, and civil workers should all be sentenced to life in jail.
