Poisonous Gas in Pickle Factory kills Four in Nawabshah

On Wednesday, poisonous gas emitted from an underground tank of a pickle factory in Nawabshah killed at least four people to pass away.

Among the deceased were a factory worker, their father, and two brothers. The incident took place in Malik Colony, according to B-Section police. After breathing in the gas in the workplace, the deceased employee Qasim Khoso lost consciousness. According to SHO Sanaullah Panhwar, The factory owner Nasir Bhatti raced to save the worker but he also passed out, and his two sons followed him one by one.

Salman and Danish Bhatti were among the victims who were taken to the Peoples Medical Hospital, where medical professionals declared them all dead. The plant had been shut since the massive monsoon rains, locals informed the media. On Wednesday, it reopened. After visiting the factory, SSP Amir Saud Magsi claimed to have established an inquiry committee to look into the event.

Four workers perished in a different incident on January 2022, after breathing deadly gas at a textile mill in Karachi on that day. The event, according to police, happened at a textile mill inside the boundaries of the Shah Latif police station, close to the Chowkandi Graveyard. Police and rescuers arrived at the factory as soon as they had the information and took the injured people to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center. Two of the four guys had already passed away before they were brought to the hospital, according to the doctors, while the other two passed away while receiving treatment.

Shahzad, 20, Ghulam Hussain, 21, Imran, 30, and Sheharyar, 28, were named as the deceased. The factory’s boiler explosion was initially the cause of the deaths, according to the police, but further investigations showed that the workers’ deaths were caused by a deadly gas leak. The firm used a variety of chemicals, and the exact cause of the incident was yet unknown, according to the police, who also noted that the company’s specialists and experts were investigating. Following the event, a sizable group of the victims’ families and other relatives gathered outside the plant and called for harsh punishment for those at fault.

According to the police, a case would be opened if evidence of criminal negligence was discovered or if the victims’ heirs requested that one be opened. Saeed Ghani, the minister of labor and information for Sindh, also took note of the occurrence and demanded investigations. In a separate incident, two more people who were cleaning the Keamari neighborhood inside the boundaries of the Jackson police station died after falling down a manhole.

According to the police, the victims were Ashraf and Arjun Lal. In the beginning, they claimed, one person slipped into the manhole, choked from poisonous fumes, and died; when his partner attempted to assist him, the other person entered the manhole and also perished. The Civil Hospital in Karachi received the bodies. There are ongoing investigations.
