PM Khan thanks Putin for defending Muslim’s love for Prophet (PBUH)

Imran Khan, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, praised Russian President Vladimir Putin for his remarks about Prophet Muhammad. He spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the phone and offered his gratitude.

PM Khan remarked on Twitter that Putin is the first Western leader to exhibit empathy and understanding toward Muslim feelings about their Prophet.

“Just spoke to President Putin primarily to express my appreciation for his emphatic statement that freedom of speech could not be a pretext to abuse our Prophet PBUH. He is the first Western leader to show empathy & sensitivity to Muslim sentiment for their beloved Prophet PBUH,” PM Khan said.

He also said they talked about methods to improve trade and collaboration between Russia and Pakistan. The two presidents also extended invitations to each other to visit their respective countries.

“We also discussed ways to move forward on trade and other mutually beneficial cooperation between our two countries. We invited each other to visit our countries,” PM Khan further added.

To be clear, Vladimir Putin took a strong stand in December 2021, declaring that offending the Holy Prophet Muhammad is not freedom of speech.

“What are insults against the Prophet Muhammad? Is this creative freedom? I think not. This is a violation of freedom of religion and a violation of the holy feelings of people who profess Islam. And this brings to life other, even more, acute and extremist manifestations,” he said at an annual conference.

During the call, PM Imran Khan and President Putin agreed to remain in contact on matters relating to Afghanistan. The Prime Minister underscored that a peaceful and stable Afghanistan is pivotal for regional stability.
