In an effort to ease the burden on the general public, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) cut the price of domestic flights during the first three days of Eid ul Azha (July 10–12) by one-fourth. Domestic flights in all classes are eligible for the discount.
According to a PIA official on Thursday, the Eid package was unveiled after Aviation Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique gave special instructions to the airline’s CEO. Rail rates would be cut by 30% on each of the three days of Eid ul Azha, according to an announcement made a day earlier by Khawaja Saad Rafique. According to the minister of railways, all train fares will be slashed by 30% for all classes.
The official page of PIA took to twitter to share this announcement. They tweeted that to commemorate Eid-ul-Azha 2022, PIA is providing a special flat price of 20% on domestic travel from July 10 through July 12, 2022. On Wednesday, 209 passengers traveled from Islamabad to Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport on the national flag carrier’s first direct trip, which now has a third destination in China in addition to Xian and Beijing. The same day, PK-871, carrying 107 people, made its way back to Islamabad. PIA’s inaugural flight on the new Islamabad-Chengdu-Islamabad route took place today. It will make it easier for Pakistan and China to establish more interpersonal, cultural, and economic ties, the Pakistani ambassador to China Moinul Haque tweeted on Wednesday following the flight.
On the other hand, the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) has failed to restart flights by the country’s airlines to Europe and America. Due to the prohibition on national carriers enforced by the European Aviation Safety Agency, the Pakistani aviation industry is expected to lose at least US$2 billion annually (EASA).
If an airline loses its reputation, it will not be able to continue operating on international routes. Without a clear agreement on traffic rights between these two sovereign states, it was criminal negligence to declare resuming flight operations from Pakistan to Australia after already damaging the reputation of PIA. Only between two governments that are sovereign over their territory and airspace may agreements on traffic rights be negotiated and signed.
However, without such an agreement, the former Arshad Malik even made a public declaration of a date for the launch of operations in Australia. While Pakistani airlines struggle, over US$2 billion annually in airline income from the sale of tickets and cargo are transferred from Pakistan to the foreign bank accounts where these airlines are headquartered.
