Pak-Afghan: Luxury Bus Service to Operate Next Month

The introduction of a luxury bus service between Peshawar and Jalalabad and Quetta and Kandahar by the end of August this year has been agreed upon by Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The three days of bilateral talks between the two sides, which ended on Wednesday, also resolved that mutual collaboration will be employed to overcome the difficulties with visa processing.

In order to put these understandings into practice and expand economic cooperation, the two parties emphasized their commitment to continuing regular coordination. The neighboring nations also reached a consensus on several measures to guarantee prompt clearance, unrestricted trade traffic, and increased efficiency in the passage of goods. From July 18 to July 20, the negotiations were overseen in the Afghan capital by Afghanistan’s Nooruddin Azizi, Pakistan’s Muhammad Sualeh Ahmed Faruqui, and Pakistan’s acting foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi.

In order to resolve challenges faced by importers and exporters on both sides, the Pakistani delegation’s visit was designed to discuss joint strategies for boosting bilateral commerce, transit, and connectivity. Representatives from all essential ministries and departments with regard to commerce, transit, commercial exchanges, and promoting accessibility at all border crossing points were part of the Pakistani delegation.

During the conversation, the two parties agreed that there had been an increase in bilateral trade and transit throughout the course of the current fiscal year. They stressed the significance of preserving and expanding on this momentum in a way that is advantageous to both parties. All parties agreed to increase the efficiency of border crossing points in order to guarantee the quick clearance of commerce and transit traffic and to remove bottlenecks and obstructions on a priority basis.

They made the decision to implement the Temporary Admission Document (TAD), which authorizes unlimited circulation of vehicles engaged in bilateral trade but forbids the loading and unloading of cargo at the border crossing, in order to further increase bilateral trade. An agreement between the relevant authorities of the two sides would result in longer operating hours for all crossing points, including Torkham, Kharlachi, Ghulam Khan, and Chaman-Spin Boldak.

It was also decided that mutual coordination would be employed to get around the difficulties in processing visas. In order to put these understandings into practice and expand economic cooperation, the two parties emphasized their commitment to continuing regular coordination.
