The National Highways & Motorways Police (NHMP) has substantially raised penalties for various traffic violations, including speeding, helmetless driving, and the use of HID lights.
As per an NHMP announcement, these heightened fines will be strictly enforced starting January 1, aiming to improve road safety and ensure strict adherence to traffic rules. The NHMP emphasized that substantial fines will be imposed for the use of HID lights on all roads under their jurisdiction, with the penalty rising from Rs. 300 to Rs. 2,000, marking a significant increase of 1,700 rupees.
Additionally, motorcyclists involved in hazardous activities, such as stunts, will face a fine of Rs. 5,000, a notable increase from the previous Rs. 300 penalty. Likewise, not wearing a helmet while driving will now incur a fine of Rs. 1,000, a significant increase from the previous Rs. 200 penalty. Additionally, the NHMP has raised the fine for passenger vehicles surpassing the designated passenger limit to Rs. 5,000, up from the previous Rs. 1,500 penalty. The fines for speeding are as follows:
- Motorcycles: Rs. 1,500
- Cars: Rs. 2,500
- Passenger vehicles: Rs. 10,000
- Heavy Transport Vehicles (HTVs): Rs. 5,000.
