Melbourne Considers Hosting the Test between Pakistan and India

Given that bilateral cricket between the two neighbors has been stopped since 2007, the Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) is investigating the potential of staging a Test match between India and Pakistan.

Since hosting Pakistan in a bilateral limited-overs series in 2013, the two nations have only faced off in the Asia Cup, and the 20- and 50-over World Cups. The two last met in the Twenty20 World Cup in October, when more than 90,000 fans filled the Melbourne Cricket Ground to watch India win in a thrilling battle down to the final ball.

The atmosphere at that game, according to MCC Chief Executive Stuart Fox, demonstrated that it would not be difficult to fill the venue for a Test series between the two. Fox told radio station SEN that he has never felt anything like the atmosphere for that game. The commotion after each ball was incredible. Three straight tests at the MCG would be ideal because you could fill the arena every time. That issue has been raised with Cricket Australia. He is aware that Victoria’s government has done the same.

He can tell that it is quite complex and that it has a very busy schedule. Fox stated his hope that Cricket Australia would keep arguing in favor of the proposal before the International Cricket Council, which regulates the game on a global scale. Fox said that he believes it would be far better to have a full house, that mood, and celebrate the game with full seats rather than empty stadiums throughout the world.
