Ayesha Gul has made history as the first female police officer in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa to be promoted to the level of assistant inspector general of police (AIG) (KP).

Gul, who hails from Swabi, is the first woman to reach the position of second in the regional police department. She will apparently serve as the AIG Gender Equality in Peshawar, working to protect the rights of women, children, and transgender people.
She will also be in charge of the Central Police Office’s support centre, which was designed to address gender-related concerns.
Inspector-General of Police KP Moazzam Jahan Ansari appointed Gul. Ayesha formerly worked for the Islamabad Traffic Police, where she was elevated to superintendent of police in January after a stellar performance.
The first woman was appointed as a District Police Officer (DPO) in KP in January 2021. After serving as the first female principal of the Manshera Police Training Centre, Sonia Samroz was appointed as the DPO for Lower Chitral. Samroz completed a Chevening Fellowship in the United Kingdom before joining the police force.
Despite the government’s 10% quota for women in the police force, female officers make up only about 1.8 percent of the whole police force in Pakistan, with even fewer in superintendent posts. Female police officers are frequently assigned to roles that target domestic abuse survivors and other gender-related issues in order to encourage women to report these crimes to the police.
