Matthew Hayden to be Pakistan’s Team Coach for the T20 World Cup

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on Friday that former Australian opener Matthew Hayden has been named the team’s coach for the T20 World Cup taking place in a month. On October 15, Hayden will go to Brisbane to join the national team.

The decision, according to the board, is a continuation of Hayden’s engagement with the national men’s team after he led them to the T20 World Cup 2021 semifinals by inspiring them to victories over India, New Zealand, Afghanistan, Scotland, and Namibia in league games.

Following his promotion to PCB chief, Hayden was chosen along with Vernon Philander of South Africa to serve as batting and bowling advisors for the T20 World Cup in 2016. He welcomes Matthew Hayden back in the national colors of Pakistan. He has a track record of success, and his credentials are known and respected on a global scale, according to PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja. He is convinced his assistance would considerably improve our exceptionally gifted cricketers for the World Cup and future visits Down Under, Raja said of the former opener, who he said carried with him a plethora of expertise about conditions in Australia.

According to the PCB announcement, Hayden also expressed delight about joining Pakistan for the major tournament. The Aussie said he saw Pakistan’s performance at the T20 Asia Cup, adding that the Green Shirts’ victory over India was ‘brilliant.’ The Aussie said he was overjoyed to be reunited with the Pakistani team as their mentor for the T20 World Cup in Australia and couldn’t wait to re-experience the culture and the feeling of ‘one nation, one passion.’ He believes that the Pakistani team may succeed in Australia and that the playing conditions there would be ideal for them on both the offensive and defensive sides. This team is well-prepared, and I do no doubt that it will dominate the World Cup as it did in the UAE the year before.

He is honored to be given the chance to share all of his knowledge and expertise about conditions in Australia, and he can’t wait to be back in the Pakistan dressing room, said the speaker. Due to the coronavirus, the tournament was originally scheduled to take place in Australia in 2020 but was delayed by two years. Now, it will happen from October 16 through November 13. Group 1’s members are England, New Zealand, Australia, and Afghanistan. Group 2 is made up of India, Pakistan, South Africa, and Bangladesh.

Melbourne and Brisbane will host the pre-tournament matches for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 between all 16 countries. The Melbourne Cricket Ground and Junction Oval will host the First Round teams’ exhibition games respectively between October 10 and October 13. On October 17 and 19, the teams that qualified to play in the Super 12 round directly will compete in their exhibition matches in Brisbane. The first exhibition game at the Junction Oval will be played on October 10 between West Indies and the UAE. Scotland will play the Netherlands, and Sri Lanka will play Zimbabwe in the other games that day at the same venue.
