Since social media first became available in Pakistan, it has frequently been seen that the police utilize the platform to highlight their successes as well as the arrests of suspects and the information they export.
From the images of the weapons used against them and the photo shoots we observe on social media the day we arrive, The Gujarat police, however, paid a heavy price for a similar photo shoot for a stage performance.
A male police officer wearing a niqab was forced to stand next to the accused in a picture session at the Daulat Nagar police station in Gujarat, Punjab, while a female police officer was not there. The police also shared this photo with the media. Remembering that the Police Act requires a female police officer to be present while arresting a woman, it is possible that the police took this action to maintain the law.
On social media, internet users are also dismissing the police’s creative initiative. The Gujarat Police spokesperson said that SHO Daulat Nagar police station has been given notice regarding the suspicious photo posted online with the woman who is allegedly a drug dealer. District Police Officer Gujarat Ata-ur-Rahman has suspended the SHO for causing a commotion in the department and brought him to the line, the spokesperson stated.
The SHO is also the subject of a probe, according to police officials, and DSP Sadar has been designated as the case’s inquiry officer. Two illegal gun carriers and a female drug dealer accused of selling illicit drugs were detained by Gujarati police officers at the Daulat Nagar police station. The woman drug dealer and the arrested suspect were later captured on camera with drugs and guns.
The Police Act stipulates that a female officer must be present in order to arrest a female suspect. A female official is required by law to accompany a female accuser who is brought before a court of competent jurisdiction or whose image is published in the media. The man officer who was allegedly forced to pose as a female cop in Daulat Nagar Police Station and stand next to the female accused was somewhat tall, and ladies often aren’t that tall. The officer’s large size thus caused issues for the SHO.
According to the initial inquiry, the female officer was present in the police station when the alleged drug dealer was arrested, but when the pictures were supposed to be taken a few hours later, the female officer had departed and gone to her home, according to DSP Sadar. As a result, the male official was positioned next to her while donning a niqab which was a bad decision.
