Khan, Bajwa and Shehbaz Among 500 Most Prominent Muslims Worldwide

In a list of the 500 most influential Muslims worldwide, several Pakistani figures have been included.

In collaboration with Georgetown University, the Jordan-based Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre (RISSC) published the 14th edition of The Muslim 500: The World’s 500 Most Influential Muslims. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, PTI Chairman Imran Khan, PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa, and Islamic scholar Maulana Tariq Jamil are some of the Pakistani officials listed in the most current edition.

Shehbaz Sharif became the 23rd prime minister of Pakistan in April 2022 as a result of a motion of no-confidence against the outgoing leader, Imran Khan. Sharif, the brother of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, served as president of the Pakistan Muslim League and three times as chief minister of Punjab. He has had a long political career (1997, 2007, and 2013). Following his arrest in 2020 on charges of corruption and money laundering, he was held for a few months until being freed on bond in April 2021. Despite having a good reputation as a leader, he still needs to do a lot before his nation and the rest of the world can be trusted.

General Qamar Javed Bajwa is the current Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of the Pakistani Army. He was chosen by the nation’s former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in 2016 over two other senior generals. Imran Khan, who was the prime minister at the time, extended his tenure in August by three more years. He is supposed to retire in the next month. Imran Khan was elected as Pakistan’s prime minister in 2018, and when he took office, the country had great expectations for him to strengthen the country’s governance, accountability, and anti-corruption initiatives. He endured a challenging period before being removed from office in April 2022 by a motion of no-confidence.

He has argued that a variety of internal institutions are to blame for his ouster from power and that foreign influence had a significant role in this. Khan himself was charged by Pakistani officials in August 2022 with breaking anti-terror legislation; he is currently free on bail. Khan continues to enjoy enormous public support both within the nation and among the sizable and influential Pakistani diaspora. His difficulties are viewed as unavoidable side effects of attempting to alter a corrupt system. One of Pakistan’s most well-liked preachers is Maulana Tariq Jameel, a renowned Deobandi scholar. He emphasizes self-purification, abstaining from violence, abiding by Allah’s laws, and imitating the way of the Prophet Muhammad in his lectures.

He belongs to the Tablighi Jamaat organization. Background: After completing his pre-medical coursework, Maulana Tariq enrolled at the King Edward Medical College in Lahore. Under the sway of the Tablighi Jamaat, his focus then turned to Islamic education. He received his Islamic education in Jamia Arabia, where he studied the Qur’an, Hadith, Sufism, logic, and Islamic law. Because of his scientific training, Maulana Tariq can convey Islamic concepts in a way that appeals to contemporary urban Muslims. His notoriety spread throughout the Muslim world due to his simple lifestyle, eloquence in Urdu, and fluency in Arabic.
