Kate Middleton and Prince William’s Emoji Favorites: A Peek into Their Most-Used Emojis

The royal couple answered some lighthearted inquiries from listeners during an interview with Radio 1 hosts Jordan North and Vick Hope for their show, ‘Going Home.’

William made a joke about having to come up with a family-friendly response when asked what their most popular emojis are. His first thought was the aubergine (eggplant), but he quickly changed his mind. He chuckled as he questioned, ‘Is this a family thing or a clean thing?’ I must choose an alternative as I’ve been advised not to mention the aubergine. The aubergine would have been the correct answer, but since I need to act like a grownup, I’m going to say that it’s the one with the moving eyes and open mouth. That one, what is it? Who is just a little bit insane.”

Following that, Kate revealed which emoji she prefers and provided some context for her usage. “I think my choice would likely be the heart emoji followed by the crying emoji, especially when things have gone awry,” the royal confessed. William’s initial suggestion of the aubergine emoji amused both presenters. North exclaimed, “This is brilliant! He mentioned the eggplant emoji” Hope chimed in, saying, “He’s well aware. He has quite the dirty mind.” On Tuesday, the pair participated in a discussion while hosting a roundtable in Birmingham to recognize World Mental Health Day. The Prince and Princess of Wales collaborated with the nonprofit organization, The Mix, and BBC Radio 1 to organize a gathering of young people to discuss mental health.

The prince shared his advice on maintaining mental health during the forum, joking around. “I value humor greatly because I enjoy laughing,” remarked William. “You’ve got to look at the lighter things in life sometimes to feel good.” The couple joked about their dinner plans for that night when they returned to Windsor, agreeing that it would probably be curry during their brief conversation with the Radio 1 DJs. “I can’t handle too much spice; I begin to perspire,” acknowledged William. “It’s not a pretty sight. Whereas I like the spice, so I have to add extra spice at the end,” Kate continued. After that, William made a joke about how Kate “had to bring it in softly because otherwise I become too sweaty.”

The pair were asked if they preferred to hear a cover song by Leigh-Anne, the Live Lounge’s guest that day, or one of their own songs. Kate affirmed, “I believe a cover.” “I go for a cover too,” William affirmed. “I enjoy covers always.” The royal couple chose the Dionne Warwick song “Walk on By,” which became well-known. Additionally, Kate was questioned if she “listened quite a lot” to Radio 1. She acknowledged, “That is accurate. I’ve been drifting more and more into Radio 2 and Radio 4. I’m beginning to sound a bit dated. I’ve been a Radio 1 fan since I was a young child. I’ve consistently listened to it. I’ve seen a lot of your people come and go over the years, including all the presenters,” William continued.

Then he cracked a joke, saying, “I can definitely say with great purpose that Greg James is an average DJ, and Jordan and Vick are the future.” The prince jokingly replied, “After I’ve just said this, I’ll never see Greg James again,” and Kate echoed, “That’s the end of our friendship.” Supporting young people as they deal with mental health issues was the day’s important theme. On World Mental Health Day, the couple participated in a forum called “Exploring our Emotional Worlds.” During one of the workshops, Kate and a few of the young people took turns describing an emotion from an emotion wheel, while others at the table had to guess what they were describing.
