Jemima Goldsmith and Talha Anjum Statements Spark Controversy Amidst Palestine-Israel Conflict

Numerous celebrities have expressed their opinions on the Middle East conflict between Palestine and Israel, either supporting or opposing it.

Rapper Talha Anjum used Twitter to urge people not to support the war because it may worsen the injustice Palestinians currently face and polarize social media users. He mentioned that while many Pakistanis can express support for Hamas’ actions against Israeli soldiers and citizens, they might not fully grasp the future challenges facing the Palestinian people. With 600 lives already lost, he urged a more mature approach, discouraging the celebration of war and emphasizing the need to confront the situation responsibly.

One online user pointed out that they somewhat share this perspective. They think that a lot of individuals support the ‘Gumaan’ rapper, not necessarily endorsing Hamas but showing appreciation for resistance. Nevertheless, the Palestinian situation was already dire, and it’s expected to deteriorate further. They suggest offering prayers for Palestine. Nonetheless, some users expressed concerns about Talha’s statement, with comments like, “The Palestinians are the ones who understand this more than anyone else. Imagine how desperate they must have felt to resort to such a desperate fight! If peace negotiations had ever succeeded, it would have been many years ago. Israel has consistently violated their agreements. Without fighting, they could never be freed.”

“Bhai, rebellion against oppression, which the people of Palestine have been experiencing for years, is not war, and Hamas doesn’t currently have the resources to compete with Israel,” another user remarked. “What are you saying? Only Palestinians have suffered and continue to suffer now.” There was no discussion about the conflict sparked by Talha Anjum’s viewpoint alone. Jemima, the screenwriter and former spouse of former Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed her support on Twitter for the innocent people who lost their lives in this war. She emphasized her solidarity with innocent individuals from both sides of the conflict, particularly children, and called for the condemnation of both parties involved.

Her viewpoint was considered valid by many users. However, others criticized the “What’s Love Got to Do With It” director for not taking a strong stand against Israel’s actions, accusing her of failing to condemn Israel’s killing of numerous Palestinian people. In a previous post, Jemima wrote, “I support international law and human rights.” She added a quote: “Politics-based tribalism lacks empathy,” according to the overwhelming majority of Pakistani responses.
