Jazz, Zong, Telenor announce significant price increase for second time this year

Call and internet bundle costs have been raised yet again by cellular phone companies. Jazz, Zong, and Telenor have all increased the cost of their call and data bundles.

Companies have hiked call and internet package rates for the second time since the minibudget in January 2022.

According to shops and retailers, companies have started imposing additional charges. The superload for the firms has been increased from Rs. 50 to Rs. 100. Various internet and data packages have increased in price from Rs. 10 to Rs. 25.

Monthly phone bundle rates have also been increased. The cost of monthly call packages has increased from Rs. 40 to Rs. 100. A weekly all-in-one bundle’s pricing has been increased from Rs. 10 to Rs. 20.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf administration passed a minibudget in January that boosted withholding tax from 10% to 15%, against the telecom sector’s requests.

According to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the largest telecom operator was previously authorised to increase package prices, but in recent months, all other enterprises have been given permission to do so with PTA clearance.

The authorities have shared a draught of tariff regulations with cellular mobile companies; once the laws are in place, CMOs will be required to request permission before boosting call and internet package costs.
