Vienna’s prestigious Justitia Award has been bestowed upon attorney Jalila Haider. The Justitia Awards are divided into four categories: academic achievement, game changers, pioneers, and young achievers, and they are presented to outstanding women in the legal profession.
Jalila Haider, the first female attorney of the nearby Hazara community, is a political activist and human rights lawyer based in Quetta. She is the founder of ‘We the Humans – Pakistan,’ a group dedicated to empowering local individuals in Balochistan, particularly women and children. Additionally, Haider serves as the leader of the Women In Law Initiative Pakistan branch in Balochistan, which is affiliated with the Lahore-based organization.
This initiative aims to promote networking and gender equality for female lawyers in Pakistan. Among her many achievements, Haider was named one of Pakistan’s ‘News Women Power 50,’ a list recognizing the country’s most significant and prominent women, in 2015. She was also selected as an Atlantic Council Emerging Leaders of Pakistan Fellow in 2014. Notably, Haider is not the only lawyer from Pakistan to receive this esteemed honor. In 2021, Nida Usman Chaudhary became the recipient of the Justitia Award, making her the first Pakistani woman to achieve this distinction.
