Italian Authorities Discover missing Pakistani Girl’s body after ‘Honor Killing’

An 18-year-old woman who went missing more than a year ago after refusing to travel to Pakistan for an arranged marriage has been located by Italian police, according to a lawyer for a rights organization.

Pakistan-origin Human remains were discovered near Saman Abbas’ family home in Novellara, Reggio Emilia region, Italy, in November 2022.

As a result, dental records allowed for Saman Abbas to be recognized, according to attorney Barbara Iannucelli, as reported by Ansa news agency. Since April 2021, Abbas was last observed. A so-called “honor killing” that outraged Italy will be the subject of a trial for five members of her family, including her father and uncle, beginning next month.

There was no longer any question regarding the victim’s identification, according to Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. She posted a newspaper photo of Abbas sporting a red headband and matching red lipstick on Twitter along with the message, let justice be served for the innocent young woman who merely desired to enjoy her remaining days of freedom. A fracture to a bone at the front of the neck would support the theory that Abbas was strangled, according to Iannucelli, a lawyer for the Penelope rights organization that works on cases involving missing individuals. According to the prosecution, the discovery that Abbas had a partner in Italy sparked the family’s fury.

According to their allegations, she was killed when she returned to the family home in northern Italy to pick up some documentation after staying there briefly while being looked after by social services. In November, Shabbir Abbas, her father, was detained in his village in eastern Pakistan on suspicion of the murder. He has never come to terms with his daughter’s passing. Her uncle, who was deported from France along with two of her cousins, is currently appearing in court. Her mother is still unaccounted for and is allegedly in Pakistan.
